Kalam is committed to protecting the confidentiality, security and accuracy of the personal information that it collects, uses or discloses in accordance with the Moroccan Personal Data Protection Act. This Privacy Policy is a statement of principles and guidelines for the privacy of individuals who are our customers (users of the Kalam application)

Definition of the application:

Kalam is a free email application that focuses on the simplicity and security of messages. Kalam offers you the assurance that no other party will have access to the data. Kalam can be used in Darija or Amazigh to serve the Moroccan people. In case you are more in the pictures, Kalam offers a multitude of funny stickers inspired by the Moroccan experience for a 100% authentic experience.

Operation of the application:The Kalam application uses end-to-end encryption to provide private messaging, each user keeps the messages on their phone, the messages are always encrypted, they can never be shared or viewed by anyone, with the exception of yourself and intended recipients.
The Kalam application requires certain permissions to access the User’s Device Data as described below. By default, these permissions must be granted by the User before the respective information is accessible. Once the authorization has been given, it can be revoked by the User at any time. The revocation of these permissions may affect the proper functioning of this Application. If the User grants one of the permissions listed below, that respective Personal Data may be processed (ie accessed, modified or deleted) by this Application.

  • Bluetooth sharing permission:

Used for accessing Bluetooth related functions such as scanning for devices, connecting with devices, and allowing data transfer between devices.

  • Calendar permission:

Used for accessing the calendar on the User’s device, including the reading, adding and removing of entries.

  • Camera permission:

Used for accessing the camera or capturing images and video from the device.

  • Contacts permission:

Used for accessing contacts and profiles on the User’s device, including the changing of entries.

  • Microphone permission :

Used for accessing and recording microphone audio from the User’s device.

  • Phone permission:

Used for accessing a host of typical features associated with telephony. This enables, for instance, read-only access to the “phone state”, which means it enables access to the phone number of the device, current mobile network information, or the status of any ongoing calls.

  • Precise location permission (continuous):

Used for accessing the User’s precise device location. This Application may collect, use, and share User location Data in order to provide location-based services.

  • Storage permission:

Used for accessing shared external storage, including the reading and adding of any items.

Types of data collected:

The data necessary for the operation of the application are:

  • Account Information:

The phone number is required as a unique identifier for each user. Each user creates an account with their phone number and password; they can add other information to the account, such as a profile name and a profile picture.

  • Messages:  

Kalam cannot decrypt or access the content of messages. Kalam queues end-to-end encrypted messages on its servers for delivery to temporarily offline devices. Message history is stored on users’ own devices.

  • Contacts:

Kalam can discover which contacts stored on the phone are Kalam users. Information from users’ device contacts can be encrypted and transmitted to the server to determine which of their contacts are registered.

Protection of the collected data:

The collected data is kept in a secure environment that respects the security measures necessary to ensure availability (high availability and backup system), integrity (end-to-end encryption) and confidentiality (strict access to data by the administrator of the application, login and password ….).

Sharing the collected data:

We undertake to not share or transfer the collected data to any other third party except the SMS providers to send the authentication code to the phone number to validate the registration.

These providers are required by their privacy policies to protect such information

User rights:

Each user has the right to change their mobile phone number, password, name and profil picture using change feature  built into the app as well as he has the right to delete his Kalam account at any time using  account deletion feature.
